It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you overthink the long route ahead. So try not to do it! Easier said than done, I know when the road ahead is somewhere you’ve never been before.

A lot of the progress we make in our run journey is not just in the miles we do but in the mindset we create. Mind games play a huge part in how successful we are in our running. We can set ourselves up for success if you look at this further…

Having the right mindset is crucial in making progress in running. Here are some tips to help you develop a mindset that supports your running progress:

  1. Set realistic goals: Goals give you direction and motivation. Make sure your goals are realistic, specific, and achievable. Set both short-term and long-term goals, and track your progress towards them. Share your goals with your Canicross Coach, on social media or with family and friends to keep you accountable.
  2. Embrace the process: Running progress is not always linear, and setbacks and plateaus are common. Embrace the process and focus on the small wins, like running a little further or faster than before. Celebrate your progress and don’t compare yourself to others.
  3. Stay consistent: Consistency is key when it comes to running progress. Develop a regular running routine and stick to it, even when you don’t feel like it. Small steps forward every day will add up to big progress over time. That’s where our group sessions have helped so many reach their goals.
  4. Learn from failures: Failure is a natural part of the learning process. Don’t beat yourself up when things don’t go as planned. Instead, analyze what went wrong and use it as an opportunity to learn and improve.
  5. Practice positive self-talk: Your mindset can have a big impact on your running progress. Practice positive self-talk and focus on your strengths and accomplishments, rather than your weaknesses and failures.
  6. Surround yourself with support: Having a supportive community can help you stay motivated and accountable. Join a group, connect with other runners online, or enlist a friend to be your running buddy. Having others champion your goals alongside you helps keep you motivated and makes the process more enjoyable.

By developing a mindset that supports your running progress, you’ll be more likely to achieve your goals and enjoy the process along the way. Here at Let’s Go, we have 3 weekly group sessions that incorporate individual training needs, where everyone’s goals are catered for and no-one gets left behind.
